Item 1: Straddle your bike. Squeeze the front wheel between your knees and try
to move the handlebars left and right. If they move in the frame, Do not ride!
Your stem is loose! If you are not absolutely sure of the procedure to torque
your stem binder bolts, bring your bike in for a free safety check.
Item 2: Check tire inflation. Put a pump with a gauge on each tire valve give it a blast and get a reading. Road bikes usually require 100 psi., mountain and comfort bikes can handle a range between 40 and 65 psi., and hybrids usually take between 60 and 80 psi. Tires should also be visually inspected for damage.
Item 3: Check the Wheel Quick Release Lever Tension. If you have any question about how this is done, please come into the shop and let us demonstrate.
Item 4: Squeeze Brake Levers. Make sure your quick release brakes are not released and brake pads are not contacting the tire before you rollout.
Item 5: Put on your Safety Equipment. Helmet, Gloves, Eyewear, and Water. Also
in cool weather, carry an extra layer of clothing in case a mechanical problem
strands you on the side of the road.
Thanks,
Grumpy
